Restore Your Sex Drive With diVa®

Something happens when your body starts going through puberty: Your hormones go into overdrive, helping you develop into an adult, complete with reproductive organs and a sexual identity. Your thoughts, feelings, and behavior change according to your sexual orientation and the people you find attractive.

Your libido, or sex drive, is an aspect of your overall sexuality, and many things can affect your interest in being with someone, which can make relationships difficult and make you feel worse about yourself. In women, these changes can lead to biological changes affecting the reproductive system.

With diVa vaginal laser therapy, we can help restore your libido. Drs. Michele Hakimian, Kate Nash, Matthew King, and the medical team at Progressive Care For Women, S.C. help Chicago residents with many reproductive issues, including problems with sex drive. Read on to learn more about low libido, its effects, and how diVA® can help.

Defining low libido

Experiencing a lack of sex drive can be an acute or chronic issue that leads to problems ranging from a mild decrease in interest to not wanting sex at all. Men and women deal with this, though it occurs more frequently in women.

The result can cause spending less time thinking about sex, no desire to have sex, even in the form of masturbation, and feeling upset about the absence of desire. Changes in hormone levels can lead to it (including menopause), along with getting older, depression, stress levels, and problems in relationships.

The effects on your body

Hormonal changes can thin the vaginal walls, making sex painful and reducing your interest in having sex, as well as lower sex drive. Called vaginal atrophy or atrophic vaginitis, it also causes dryness, urinary tract infections, burning, itching, and spotting.

Around half of women going through menopause deal with vaginal atrophy, but women of any age can have hormonal changes that lead to these symptoms. Other factors that lead to this include some contraceptive pills, breastfeeding, immune disorders, cigarette smoking, radiation therapy, removal of ovaries, and some medications.

How diVa helps

A technique that uses hybrid fractional laser (HFL) technology and lasers of two varying wavelengths, the diVa laser treatment addresses the dryness and other problems associated with menopause. But it does more: It also tightens vaginal tissue and supports collagen production, an essential protein in your skin and many other organs.

To begin, a numbing cream is applied to your vaginal canal, which can take up to 20 minutes. Once numbed, the device is placed inside and uses rotating lasers to evenly reach all areas. You may experience mild discomfort, but once it’s over, you can return to your normal activities.

Avoid vaginal sex and inserting anything for at least a week. Also, expect some pink or red discharge, mild discomfort, itching, and tenderness for up to three days post procedure.

We can use many methods to manage the symptoms of low libido, but to treat any associated vaginal dryness and other signs of atrophy, diVa laser therapy is a process that can make a difference in sexual interest.
