Hormonal Implant – Chicago Birth Control Methods

A hormonal implant is a convenient and long-lasting method of birth control. What should patients expect when coming in for insertion of a hormonal implant?

First, the patient will provide the details of their medical history. Following this, a physical examination is required.

Once this is complete, a section of the upper arm is numbed to prepare for insertion of the hormonal implant, a matchstick-sized plastic rod. Over the course of about three minutes, the implant is placed beneath the skin in the numbed region of the arm.
